Iron is completely made of the iron compound so it rusts whereas stainless steel is an alloy, i.e, homologous mixture of various metals . So the other elements in the alloy doesn't allow it to rust.

Answer:

Iron is a pure metal. So it reacts with oxygen and gets rust but stainless steel is an alloy of iron and alloying is a method of preventing corrosion. Therefore iron rust and stainless steel having large amount of iron does not rust
