Irrigation farming is very less practiced in the western coastal region of India because these areas undergo sufficient rainfall. Irrigation agriculture is usually necessary for the regions where adequate water is not accessible in the monsoon periods.

But near the southwestern coastal areas, the South West Monsoon Winds gather adequate moisture over the southwestern coast of Arabian Sea.

Hence, sufficient rainfall to the areas near the western coastal region of India has a very little tradition of Irrigation Farming.
