Is  \sf13x +  \frac{1}{x} a polynomial or not? And why? And is \sf5 \sqrt{} 5x {}^{3} -  \frac{1}{3}   \sqrt{} 3y³ a polynomial or not, Give reason comparing both.

 \sf13x +  \frac{1}{x}

No, this is not a polynomial.

Because \sf13x + \frac{1}{x} can also be written as \sf13x + {x}^{ - 1} but polynomials cannot have negative powers on the variables. That's why we cannot consider it as a polynomial.

 \sf5 \sqrt{} 5x {}^{3} -  \frac{1}{3}   \sqrt{} 3y³

Yes, this is a polynomial.

Because in a polynomial it is not necessary that the coefficient should be a whole number it can be in the form of a fraction or it can be a irrational number. But it is very necessary that the power of the variable should be positive and a whole number.
