Hii !!!

This is your answer......

We have to check whether -150 is a term of given AP ..

AP :- 11, 8, 5, 2, .......

Here,
a = 11.
d = 8-11= -3.

and, an = -150.

So, by putting the values in.....
an = a + (n-1)d

-150 = 11 + (n -1)(-3)
-139 = (-3)(n-1)
n -1 = -139/-3
n = 139/3 + 1

We know that n is always a whole number but here it is not a whole number.
So, -150 is not a term of given AP

Hope it helps..
.

If any doubt, feel free to ask......m

Hi !

11,8,5,2......

First term = a = 11

Common difference = d = -3

Last term = an = -150

n = no: of terms = ?

-150 will be a term of the A.P if n = whole no: .

an = a + (n - 1)d

-150 = 11 + (n - 1)-3

-150 - 11 = (n-1)-3

-161 = (n -1)-3

(n - 1) = 161/3

n = 161/3 + 1

n  is not a whole no:.
Hence, -150 is not a term of the A.P
