Is -180 a term of the AP 17, 12, 17, 2
Solution
first term a= 17
common difference d= 12-17 = -5
(assume)  last term l = -180
so formula to find the number terms in this series
n = (l-a)/d +1
   = [(-180 - 17) / (-5) ] +1
   = [-197 / (-5) ] +1
  =   39.4 +1
  =  40.4
here we get the answer in decimal so this is not in the term of AP

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Ap=17,12,7,2...

a=17

d=12-17=-5

an=-180

an=a+(n-1)d

-180=17+(n-1)-5

-180-17=-5n+5

-197=-5n+5

-197-5=5n

-202=5n

n=202\5=40.4

Since it is not an integer -180 is not a term of this ap
