is (-2) a root of quadratic equation 2x^2+x-3 =0 ?

No.. A root is a value which satisfies the equation but here putting - 2 in place of x gives 3 which was supposed to be 0.

 {2x}^{2}  + x + - 3 = 0 \\ 2 {x}^{2} - 2x + 3x - 3 \\ 2x (x - 1) + 3(x - 1) \\ (2x + 3)(x - 1)

2 is not the root of the above Q.E.
