Adding both the above equations we get :

2a + 3b = 14 -------1
+ 2a - 3b = 2 -------2
-----------------------
4a = 16

a = 4

Therefore b :

2a -3b = 2

2(4) -3b = 2

8 - 2 = 3b

6 = 3b

b = 2

Therefore,

ab = 2 * 4 = 8 Answer.
