To Find :

  • (2x - 3) is a factor of Given polynomial or not.

Solution :

If (2x - 3) is a factor of given polynomial then when we put value of x in polynomial then the Value will have to came 0.

So,

2x - 3 = 0

2x = 3

x = 3/2

  • Putting value of x in given polynomial

= 4x³ + 2x² - 20 + 12

= 4 × (3/2)³ + 2 × (3/2)² - 8

= 4 × 27/8 + 2 × 9/4 - 8

= 27/2 + 9/2 - 8

= (27 + 9 - 16)/2

= (36 - 16)/2

= 20/2

= 10

Hence,

  • (2x-3) is not a factor of 4x³+2x²-20+12.

2x-3 = 0

Or, x=3/2

let, f(x) = 4x³+2x²-20x+12

f(3/2) = 4(3/2)^3+2(3/2)^2-20×3/2 +12

=4*27/8 +2*9/4 -30+12

= 216/8 +18/4 -18

=(216+36/8) -18

= 31.5-18

= not equal to zero.

so, 2x-3 is not a factor.
