QUESTION:-

Is 8/5 rational or irrational?

ANSWER:-

  • \frac{8}{5} is a rational number.

  • Rational and Irrational numbers both are real numbers but their major difference is concerning their properties.

  • A Rational Number is a number which can be depicted in the form of P/Q where P and Q are integers and Q ≠ 0.

  • In the above number 8/5, where P is 8 and Q is 5 are integers and Q is not equal to 0. Hence, \frac{8}{5} is a rational number.

  • But an Irrational Number cannot be depicted in the form of simple fractions like \frac{8}{5} is an example of a rational number whereas √2 is an irrational number because it cannot be represented in the form of P/Q where Q is not equal to 0.
