In an isotonic solution, the plant cells become flaccid. In a hypertonic solution, the plant cells shrink or become plasmolyzed. In a hypotonic solution, the explant cell becomes turgid (it will swell up).

When two solutions have the same osmotic pressure across a semipermeable membrane is referred to as Isotonic solution. Both solution have the same solute concentration.

A solution is isotonic when its effective mole concentration is the same as that of another solution.

When a cell  will be suspended in the isotonic solution there would be no net movement of water molecules between the solution and cell. The cell that is placed in an isotonic solution would become flaccid, means the cell will be soft and hanging loosely in that solution.
