Chlorophyll a is the main photosynthetic pigment.

Photosynthesis is carried out by the chlorophyll contained in chloroplasts. Chlorophyll in turn are of different types. The chlorophyll a out of all is vital in photosynthesis as it passes the energized and excited electrons to molecules that synthesize sugars (glucose). Also, chlorophyll b is another important pigment. These pigments absorb different wavelengths of light, read and blue. Consequently, chlorophyll a is the primary pigment as it directly participates in the conversion of light energy into chemical energy.
