What is the expected outcome of an experiment?

You are curious about some phenomenon, so you make up a story to explain it (a hypothesis). You find something that this story says must happen if the story is true (a prediction). You see if that thing actually does happen (an experiment). So the expected outcome of an experiment is that you find out whether or not your hypothesis can be falsified by the prediction you chose to test for.
