Is air a good or bad conducted of electricty
Answers
⏩Air is generally considered a bad conductor of electricity. But on the contrary, it CAN become a good conductor of electricity at the time of "electric discharge"..i.e. during the development of a thunderstorm. Now, as we know, during the development of a thunderstorm, the air currents move upward while the water droplets move downward. These vigorous movements then causes separation of charges. By a process, not yet completely understood, the positive charges collect near the upper edges of the clouds and the negative charges accumulate near the lower edges. There is accumulation of positive charges near ground also. When the magnitude of the accumulated charges becomes very large, the air which is normally a poor conductor of electricity, is no longer able to resist their flow..and thus becomes highly conductive. Then ,the negative and positive charges meet, producing bright streaks of light and sound. We see these streaks as lightning. The process is termed as electric discharge. Hence, air can become a good conductor of electricity through this very process.
