Answers
it is a mixture because, it contains nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide

Hi
Here's your answer
Let us try to understand that what
is mixture and what is compound?
*Mixture: When two or more substances (elements or compounds) are mixed together in any proportion ,such that they do not undergo any chemical change but retain their individual characteristics, the resulting product is called a mixture.
*Compound: A pure substance, which is composed of two or more different elements ,combined chemically in definite ratio ,such that it can be broken down into elements only by chemical means is called compound.
Hope u remembered that what is difference in mixture and compound.
Why air is mixture??
1) Composition of air is not same at all places. The percentage of oxygen decreases at higher altitudes. Also in industrial areas percentages of carbon dioxide and other polluting gases increases.
2) Main components of air can be separated by methods like liquefaction and fractional distillation which are physical methods not chemical changes.
3) When constituents of air such as oxygen, nitrogen, water vapour and carbon dioxide are mixed no chemical reaction takes place.Means No energy is evolved or absorbed when components of air are mixed.
4) Each of constituent of air retains it’s physical and chemical properties. For example Oxygen ata as supporter gas for combustion.Carbon dioxide turns lime water milky.
Hence air is always and always a mixture.
