Answer:

Air is a mixture and not a compound. This is because air doesnot have similar contents at all places. Air is made up of gases like nitrogen, oxygen, argon, carbon dioxide, hydrogen and other gases which are not chemically mixed with each other i.e. these gases can be separated using only physical methods and no chemical reaction. Pure dry air's composition is --- nitrogen (78.084%), oxygen (20.946%), argon (0.934%), carbon dioxide (0.033%), hydrogen, neon and others (0.003%). But this composition of air varies from place to place i.e. on mountains, there is a deficiency in the amount of oxygen in air.

So, due to all these reasons, we can conclude that air is not a compound but a mixture.
