Surface waves. The surface waves are the waves that are generated on the surface of the sea because of the wind movements.

When the wind blows with a lot of pressure over the surface area the water on the surface rises and produces high tide kind of waves.

Thus, they are also known as L waves. They are generally an indication of Earthquake when there is a shift in the tectonic plates of the earth.
