Is Amritsar train accident a man made disaster?
Answers
The Amritsar train accident which happened on 19 October, was clearly a man-made disaster.
The train mowed down about 60 people, who had gathered on the tracks to witness Dussehra celebrations, happening a few metres away and to look at the giant TV screen, projecting these celebrations. Mainly, the organisers are to be blamed for the tragedy, as they did not inform the Railways about a celebration so close to the railway tracks. The local authorities also did not take any action to forewarn the public, about gathering on tracks etc.
This major disaster could have been averted, if the people including the general public, had taken a few basic precautions, prior to holding the festivities so close to railway tracks.
