Salutation: The salutation is the greeting the letters which will take a form which is appropriate to the relation in which the sender stands to addressee.
We change the forms of Salutation when:
- In writing private letters to relatives, the salutation are as follows: My dear Father, My dear Mother, Dearest Sister, My dear Arpita (Arpita is a name), Dear Brother, Sweetest Sister, etc.
- In writing letters to very close friends: My dear Anil (Anil is a name), Dearest Sunil (Sunil is a name), Dear Megha (Megha is a name), etc.
- When we write to friends or acquaintances much older to us: Mr. Mann (Mann is a name), Dear Mrs Gupta (Gupta is a name), etc.
- To Principals, schoolmasters or teachers: Sir or Madam
- To Strangers: Dear Sir (if we address a gentleman), Dear Madam (if we address a lady), etc.
Note: An appropriate form of salutation in writing letters is always required to show respect to whom we are writing letter. ^-^
