Leaching (metallurgy) From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Leaching is a process where ore is soluble and impurities are insoluble, widely used extractive metallurgy technique which converts metals into soluble salts in aqueous media.

The process of converting iron ore into steel involves many stages. The raw material is put in the blast furnace where it undergoes smelting.Smelting is the process in which metals are extracted from their ores by heating the ores beyond their melting point. The impurities are then removed from the iron. The molten iron is cooled and moulded to form pig iron.

Leaching :=
Leaching is the loss or extraction of certain materials from a carrier into a liquid (usually, but not always a solvent). and may refer to: Leaching (agriculture), the loss of water-soluble plant nutrients from the soil; or applying a small amount of excess irrigation to avoid soil salinity.

Smelting:=
Smelting is a process of applying heat to ore in order to extract out a base metal. It is a form of extractive metallurgy. It is used to extract many metals from their ores, including silver, iron, copper, and other base metals.
