Answer:

It’s like comparing the colour black with the colour white. Both are a great choice, however, some may get attracted to the colour black, and end up buying everything in this colour, on the other hand, some may like all white!

Having worked in the field of career counselling, I have come across a lot of students and parents who believe that Science stream is a better option just because it opens a lot of opportunities for students (science student can enter commerce/arts stream, while the latter can not). However, what they don’t realize is, you need to score well in order to be eligible to pursue some field or to say for further studies. For instance, if a student wants to pursue management after class 12th, it makes more sense for them to study subjects related to accounts, business studies rather than studying physics, chemistry, biology which is not related to that field. Adding on to this, colleges that give admission on merit bases have basic eligibility for students to score a minimum of 65%–70% in class 12th. So while you think you have opted for a stream that will offer you all the options, you barely even pass your exams!

Also, if we talk about “time”- someone who isn’t very passionate about studying science subjects such as physics or chemistry ends up spending more time understanding subject concept compared to a student whose end goal is very clear. Why? First, because they are confused about what to study, how to study and manage their interest with others expectations from them. Second, maybe they are cut out for some other field and scoring a 10 CGPA in grade 10th doesn’t always mean they will enjoy 11th subjects too as there is a drastic change in the concept/ syllabus of class 11th from class 10th. So, if you’re someone who is sure of your end goal and wants to select a stream just for the sake of keeping all your options open, you might want to re-think as you may end up closing your door to success while you juggle between your school subject, your passion, entrance examination, great score, me time, etc.

So no stream is better than the other. It is about selecting the right subject that will lead you to your goal. With respect to both the streams, they both offer varied career opportunities.
