I think it's a bane. To some extent it might be a boon. if everyone becomes invisible then how can we communicate with each other or how can we share our feelings like if we're hurt then we can't show that i have got hurt. Being invisible helped Griffin multiple times in escaping on different occasions in the story as he was not visible to anyone around him and he was able to leave a place without anyone noticing him.
