Black holes are present in the middle of Spiral Galaxy like our but they can form anywhere where a star dies whose mass is 3 times the mass of the sun.
Actually a star with lesser mass than that of 3 times of Sun won't become a black hole. It will become a neutron star. A neutron star is that dense that it will hardly be bigger than Jupiter and would have the same mass. Even a tablespoon of neutron star will weight billions of tonnes!!!
And as we all know black holes have singularity at their centres which means a place where density and gravity goes infinite.
So a black hole has that strong pull that even light can't escape it.

Actually we don't know if there is any blackhole in middle of the galaxy or not.Scientists have said this because evry star and it's systen in our galaxy, revolves around it's centre.
Another fact is the center of every spiral galaxy looks much more brighter than the arms.So they say that all the lights coming from other stars must have been travelling to the centre because of a great attraction force. So they tell that there may be blackholes at the center of the galaxy.Truth is we have not stepped out from our Solar system. It's Hubble-the eyes of the cosmos who gives us informations.
Hope it helps.
