CaCl₂ is a salt of strong acid (HCl) and strong base Ca(OH)₂. Thus when dissolved in water it shows following reaction.

CaCl₂ + 2H₂O—->Ca(OH)₂ + 2HCl

As acid and base both are strong,ionic reaction is given as,

Ca²+ + 2Cl- + 2H₂O—>Ca²+ + 2OH- + 2H+ + 2Cl-

Common ions from both sides get cancelled,thus we get

2H₂O——>2OH- + 2H+

As solution contains equal number of H+ and OH- ions,it is neutral in nature
