Actually, cardboard is allowed in some regions of the schools and not in some regions.
For the exam why d you need the cardboard as you are going to write the exam in the paper and you are going to sit and write the exam only at the table.
I don’t think cardboard is the must for high class and it is only needed for nursery and students up to V Std.
