China and Russia were among those countries that banned bitcoins in their state. Other countries in which bitcoins are banned are Bangladesh, Bolivia, Iceland, India, Sweden, Thailand, Vietnam.
In China, the Banking institutions and employees neither allowed to engage in bitcoin business through banking nor servicing or doing business with the bitcoin industry. In Russia, bitcoin is banned in practice, if not officially legal yet.
