To be accurate, coffee cannot be considered an acid or a base per se, since coffee is ultimately a complex mixture of compounds. Coffee (i.e. brewed coffee) is acidic, largely due to the presence of chlorogenic acid. However, that's a different thing altogether from describing coffee as an acid or a base, which are terms normally attributed to single molecules or compounds.
