Common salt is neither acid nor base, Common salt is a neutral salt.
- The ideal “salt,” is mainly sodium chloride or table salt. Sodium chloride, which is collected by the process of neutralization of hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide is a neutral salt. Neutralization of any strong acid with a strong base will often result in a neutral salt.
A basic and neutral solution is present in two different test tubes we can distinguish them by using a turmeric solution
- Turmeric solution is yellow in acidic and neutral solutions and it turns bright red when it is dissolved basic solution.
- The turmeric when added to the test tube having a basic solution will turn red because of the addition of sodium hydroxide in the solution, so it will turn basic.
- Whereas the turmeric in the acidic solution will endure no change as the solution will come to be neutral due to the addition of the base and the turmeric solution is yellow in acidic as well as neutral solution.
