DNA copying is identical. But, DNA copying is not error free and minor errors lead to a variation which eventually leads to an evolution. In this way it is beneficial to the species.

No, the DNA replication is a biochemical process and these are not very accurate so the during DNA replication it is bound to have variations (or else we could have been an exact copy of our parent !!)
