Is diamond a conductor of electricity? Give reason for your answer

Yes , diamond is a poor conductor of electricity because ,

  • Diamond is an allotrope of carbon with a rigid tetrahedron like structure
  • The 4 valencies of carbon are satisfied with covalent bonds, therefore , all electrons are localised .
  • There are no free electrons for constituting current, therefore , electricity doesn’t pass through diamond.
