Correct Question

Is valency and valence electrons are same or not ?

No, they are not same.

Valency is defined as number of electrons an atom of an element loses or gain to complete its orbit and become stable.

Valence electrons are those electrons which are present in the last shell of an atom of an element.

For example -

# Chlorine (₁₇Cl) : Electronic Configuration = 2, 8, 7

Its valency is - 1 and there are 7 valence electrons.

# Beryllium (₄Be) : Electronic Configuration = 2, 2

Its valency is +2 and there are 2 valance electrons. Here, both are same (if we ignore the '+' sign) but this is mere coincidence.

Is electron valency and valency electrons are same or not

The number of electrons that are shared, lost or gained by an atom during a chemical reaction is called as the valency of the element. The outermost shell of the atom is called the 'valence shell' and the electrons present in that shell are called the 'valence electrons'. They determine the valency of the element.
