Both, you see everyone in the world is a consumer and producer.If you make clothes then sell them you are a producer,and you also bought food you are a consumer.

A market is a place where, in simple terms trading takes place.
So yes in a market only buying and selling takes place.
People go in a market and then they decide what they want to buy and then they trade that thing for money.
There are obviously negotiations involved in it too regarding the price of the item.
