Evolution is the effect. Natural selection is the mechanism.
If you remember that the word evolution just means 'change', then it makes sense to say that 'change' is a process that is the end result of another process (natural selection).
Actually to be more accurate, we would say that evolution (the change in species over time) is a process that is the result of several processes (mutation, natural selection, and genetic drift).
And these processes themselves are the result of other processes: Mutation is a process caused by the errors in replication. Natural selection is a process caused by the process of environment acting on phenotypes of individuals. And genetic drift is a process caused by the process of random matings, reproduction, and chance events.
So there is no conflict in saying that one process is the result of other processes.
