Friction is the force that takes place when two or more object comes together and atleast one of them are in motion. Such as a rolling ball coming to rest, where the ball is in motion but the surface is in rest in respect to the ball.

So overall, motion and interference of matter are needed equally for friction, which is held together by the force of gravity. Without gravity, everything would have fly away in the universe, and the friction would not have exist.

Hence, friction is dependent on gravity.
