garden makes up small part of an ecosystem. Some indoor growers refer to their indoor gardens as ecosystems, in which case they are referring to their growroom's environment and all of the things that affect their results.

Garden is an ecosystem:

An ecosystem is a place where different group of organisms live together in the same habitat, having same climatic condition and same flora and fauna and are dependent on each other for nutrition. Now let's consider a garden, in a garden the caterpillar feeds on the leaves.

The caterpillar is eaten up by the lizard, the lizard is eaten up by the snake and the eagle feeds on the snake. Hence there is recycling of the nutrients of the plant.
