Is hcl a covalent compound?if it is covalent then how it ionises to conduct electricity

I felt the need to clarify that HCl is a covalent, not an ionic compound.

NaCl is ionic, as most answers have mentioned. But in HCl, the electrons are shared in the H-Cl bond, which is why it is covalent. The reason lies in the electronegativity—the difference in electronegativity between H and Cl is too small to be considered ionic.
