No I + j is not a unit vector if vector R = i + j

then

R =

 \sqrt{ {1}^{2} +  {1}^{2}  }

R =

 \sqrt{2}

then angle bita Which vector R make with x axis given by

 \cos( \beta )  =  \frac{1}{ \sqrt{2} }

Bita = 45°
