Is India’s foreign policy an instrument of our development?


No country can live in isolation in the contemporary times. The entire world has become a one big market. In such a scenario foreign policy of a country plays a very crucial role. All countries pay minute attention to their foreign policy. India too has a dynamic foreign policy that promotes and safeguards national interests. India is the fastest growing economy and the largest democracy in the world. It has friendly and economic relations with all the countries in the world. A positive and healthy foreign policy is a must for any nation’s development.


India has friendly relations with the most advanced countries of the world. Countries such as USA, Russia, France, U.K., Germany, Japan, Israel, China, etc. trade, cooperate, with India in large volumes. India has acquired technical assistance and guidance from the advanced countries to set up basic infrastructure, industries, defense equipment, transportation, military hardware, etc.


Recently India signed many joint ventures with France and Japan. France will help India set up nuclear energy plants; Japan is going to lay bullet train tracks from Ahemdabad to Mumbai. Similarly, Israel is providing technical expertise to India in developing advanced weapons such as Barak air-defense missiles, anti-tank missiles, etc. In return India is providing technical assistance to Israel in space research.


Russia too is India is old reliable ally. Indian military, air-force, and navy uses approximately 80% defense hardware and weapons imported from Russia.


India takes active participation in international affairs and is an important member in international organizations. All the member countries of Security Council, except, China support India in all its ventures. In the recent past India has become a very important country in the international affairs; it has been possible only because of India’s robust foreign policy. So it can be said Indian Foreign Policy has played quite an important role in the nation’s development.
