  • iron oxide is basic.
  • because it gives salt and water on reacting with acids like sulphuric acid, hydrochloric acid etc.
  • depending on the electropositivity of central atom,we can decide whether the oxide is acidic or basic. more the electropositivity of central atom,more the basic nature of oxide.
  • more the electronegativity of central metal atom,more is the acidity.
  • many metals have oxides which are basic in nature.
