'is' is used for uncountable nouns.

Ex:-1.Milk is on the stove

2..Water is spilled all over the floor.

here,water and milk are uncountable nouns we cannot count them that is why it called so

'are'is used for countable nouns.

Ex:-1.Dogs are barking outside.

2.Kids are dancing.

here,we can count the number of dogs and kids they are countable nouns.
