Is it better to appear for nsejs in class 10 since paper is same?
Answers
Depends on you.
NSEJS and NTSE are both extremely prestigious.
NTSE holds much value and is widely recognized and accepted. It is useful in college admission, provides you with scholarship and having NTSE Scholar in your resume would surely distinguish you.
NSEJS doesn't hold much value itself; the latter stages of NSEJS like the INJSO and OCSC do. They are more beneficial because of the amount of exposure and knowledge you gain, meanwhile adding an important extra bullet in your resume.
It is a tough job to qualify the INJSO and clear the OCSC to appear in the IJSO.
Consider focusing more on NTSE, because it is a lot easier to qualify the Stage-2 than even reaching the OCSC.
NSEJS requires your command on Science and Maths. It attacks you with conceptual questions. Very rarely would you be asked about facts. You must have extremely clear basics to ace this exam.
NTSE requires the highest command on SST and MAT. It requires great memory and recalling skill. It is highly probable that you'll ace the exam if you get a good score in MAT (35+/50) and SST (30+/40) and a decent score in Maths (7+/20)and Science (20+/40).
[Edit - Multiply all the scores by 2, because of the recent pattern change in the exam.]
But it is possible to prepare for both the exams simultaneously.
Different subjects require different approaches.
For Maths, you must regularly solve good questions. AHMSE and AMC questions are good sources.
For Chemistry, you must be extremely clear with anything you read. NCERTs of 11th and 12th are good for beginning.
For Physics, you must solve problems and be clear with theory. Concepts of Physics by HC Verma can be used.
For Biology, you can rely on different Foundation books like MTG and Pearson. Later on read the NCERTs of 11th and 12th.
For SST, reading the State Board books and NCERTs of class 9th is sufficient.
For MAT, regular timed practice is a must.
P.S. NSEJS has a age criteria which is strictly followed. For most of us, the criteria made us give the exam in 9th. So check again that if you (class 10th student) are eligible
