India's climate totally depends upon the monsoon because of the following reasons:-

1) As western Rajasthan do not receive any rain it arid and sandy region

2) The North western winds that prevail in India are dry and does not cause any rainfall but due to the deflection coming from south East India does receive rains.

3) Without monsoon the farmers of India would not be able to irrigate the land as most of the Peninsular rivers are seasonal an dependent on monsoon for water.

4) Without monsoon we might not been having such thick forests.

5)The eastern and western ghats of India are so much green because of the heavy rainfall they get.

Therefore it is correct to say that without monsoon India might have been an arid land.

bhattrb001: Brother its not totally predictable.See there are two ascpects.Firstly some r in favour of statement as rohit has mentioned. .But u also hace to consider there are many rivers that get water from glaciers .So it means you can definitely build canals so that your soil doesnt become arid
rohit041: ya it could be true but this question in my opinion is asking the importance of monsoon for our country and it is also true you can not just pe dependent on the fresh water lakes or glaciers to arrange water for such a vast country.
