Having political competition has its advantages as well as its disadvantages. The answer will be an Yes or No. The reasons for Yes and No are provided below.

Merits of having Political Competition. (if you support the statement)

  • Regular electoral competition provides incentives to political leaders and parties.
  • Political competition helps to force political parties and leaders to serve the people.
  • If there is no competition and the opposition parties dont critisize each other, it does not result in the betterment of either of them, which makes the elections pointless.

Demerits of having Political Competition. (if you are against the statement)

  • It creates a sense of disunity and 'factionalism' in every locality.
  • Different political parties and leaders often level allegations against one another.
  • Parties and candidates often use dirty tricks to win elections. This pressure to win electoral fights does not allow sensible long term policies to be formulated.
