Yes,it is important to increase the area under irrigation. Because the population is increasing more,so irrigation area also should increase to get food for the population.

Even after a great improvement in agricultural technologies there are many regions in India which depends on rain for farming. That's why it is important to increase the area under irrigation to improve production & to be able to compete in global market.
