Sure. I think there's something to be said about not following music theory too. But bare minimum music theory can really help you make songs. Just basic scales and chords. It helps to know how people write chord progressions because you might want them in your song.

I suppose you could say it helps with FL just because FL's piano roll is so great. It won't necessarily help you with things like melody. There is a specific kind of writing called counterpoint, but I don't think it's the end all be all of writing.
