don't use potting soil it can have all sorts of nasties in it. Try Coco-Fibre.
It's a coconut husk product that comes in dehydrated bricks, you soak it in water and it expands into something almost identical feel to soil.
They sell it in bricks at pet stores and garden centers. (Exo-Terra makes it, there's also another called Eco-Earth. There's a few brands in garden centres too, such as "Beats-Peat").
