How to find by Burning test :-

• Upon burning,silk fibre produces hair burning smell, cotton fibre produces paper burning smell.
• But an artificial fibre produces plastic burning smell/pungent smell.
• After burning,silk and cotton or any other natural fibre will change to ash.
• An artificial fibre after burning,will change to semi solid or cream like substance like a polythene bag when burnt.

Reasons :-

• Natural fibres are made up of ---

1. silk - proteins called sirisin and fibroin
2. cotton - cellulose
3. wool - keratin
4. jute - cellulose
