Anderson started his expedition from Forest Lodge at Ramapuram and began his walk to Bailur. Jeyken, the husband of the woman who had been the man-eater’s first victim came to Bailur to offer his help. They both started looking for the tiger marks. They used young bulls as bait for the tiger
- One day they had come across some tiger paw marks, but it was a tigress paw marks that lived near a cavern with its two cubs who meant no harm as long as the writer and Jeyken did not disturb them
- Then started his journey back to the village of Bailur. He reached near the small wild-fig tree beneath which his bait was tied. As he started to test the bull, the man-eater unexpectedly attacked! The assault by the eater was rather sudden and shocking
- Anderson describes his own terrifying state and his battle with the vicious tiger. He fired two bullets, but the second bullet unfortunately killed the bull and the bull died. However, the tiger rolled off the bull and bounced on Anderson as he fired his third bullet into the tiger’s throat
- It is later shown that Jeyken behaves starts stabbing the dead tiger, thinking of his dead wife. The villagers expressed their gratitude to Anderson.
