Characteristics of lotus plant:

1)Root type:Lotus has tuberous. The stalks of the leaf and flower are strongly attached to the root

2) Venation: The lotus Reticulate venation.

3)The Lotus flower contains 4 petals or more.

Now,

1)As the flowers of dicotyledonous have petals.

2)The seed is protected by a seed coat.

3)Lotus seeds also contain a embrayonic plant.

4)The dicots have reticulate venation and Lotus also have reticulate venation.

These are the characteristics of dicotyledonous plant. So I think lotus is a dicotyledonous plant.

On the other hand,Lotus plants have some characteristics of monocot.

Root system: The lotus plant has hairy roots. It is the characteristics of monocot plant.

The tap root of lotus does not develop.

That's why in the past it was categorized in eudicot.

So the lotus is both monocot and dicot plant.

Hope it helps.

Lotus is considered as Basal angiosperms , a broad group of flowering plants, Which contains both the traits of monocots and dicots.
Lotus belongs to Nymphaeales group
Lotus Dicot properties:
