Is maximum work positive or negative?
Hi. I'm a begginer in thermodynamics and I don't speak English well, but I'm very confused about maximum work.
I've tried to solve problems about the topic. The issue is that, in some cases, maximum work is positive; and in other cases, maximum work is negative. And I'm wrong in every exercise for this.
Here, maximum work is positive (https://www.wiredfaculty.com/question/U1VOVFJVVk9TVU5JTVRJd01qa3pNREE9), but here is negative (https://www.sarthaks.com/1393251/calculate-maximum-work-when-24g-expanded-isothermally-reversibly-from-pressure-bar-298) and I really don't know why. Do you have any idea?

Explanation:

if energy enters the system, its sign is positive. If energy leaves the system, its sign is negative. If work is done on the system, its sign is positive. If work is done by the system, its sign is negative.
