Answer- Metal oxides are basic in nature.
E.g.- Magnesium reacts with oxygen to form magnesium oxide
2Mg + O₂--> 2MgO
When this magnesium oxide is put in water, it forms magnesium hydroxide.
MgO + H₂O--> Mg(OH)₂
As we know, hydroxide ions are basic in nature, so, it is proved that metal oxides are basic in nature.
